Stories written by RachelChristoferson
Rachel Christoferson is the oldest of six children raised on the family ranch. It wasn’t until she’d left the nest that she realized the years of chasing cows, checking heifers, meeting cattle buyers, running over to the livestock auction, and helping out at the small agricultural supply store her parents had started were truly intensive training on the realities of entrepreneurship. It was a natural fit for Rachel to start her own tax and consulting practice after working for two regional CPA firms in Billings. Between the two regional firms and her own practice, Rachel has extensive experience in working with farms, ranches, retailers, wholesalers, artists, oil & gas, individuals, non-profits, payroll, bookkeeping, and the western tradition of jack-of-all-trades. Her love of tax and working with small businesses is now being balanced (well, at least as much as possible) with time for her three and a half year old son and husband of 15 years. Regular family activities include fishing, hunting, camping, barbecuing, and pretty much anything outdoors. Make Sure THE IRS Doesn’t Spell Your Tax Refund THEIRS !

I saw a nifty billboard the other day, it read “Be sure to cross your T’s and dot your I’s or THE IRS will spell your tax refund THEIRS !” Which prompted me to post this quick reminder blog: In order for the S-corporation shareholder-employee to deduct health insurance premiums above the line on their [...]

I Owe, I Owe, Off to Work I Go…to the Bakken !

North Dakota / Montana Wage Reciprocity Have you heard the story (or maybe even know a guy) that got his W-2 and decided not to file his tax return because he was a Montana resident, but his employer had only withheld North Dakota tax?  Panicked that he would now owe Montana as well as North Dakota state [...]
