PPL Montana, headquartered in Billings, generates electricity at its coal-fired and hydroelectric power plants around the state.

In Montana’s electricity market, deregulated since 1997, PPL Montana is solely a generator of electricity. We do not deliver electricity to customers. The electricity we produce is sold by our marketing operation in Butte — PPL EnergyPlus — to wholesale customers such as NorthWestern Energy, to large industrial customers and to electricity cooperatives.

Our more than 500 employees — most of whom grew up right here in Big Sky country — work hard to make sure their fellow Montanans have the electricity they need. And our employees have been at it a long time. They’ve been working at these generating facilities for an average of more than 20 years.
