Located in eastern Montana, Richland County is Montana’s 21^st most populous county with 9,746 residents (from provided by the 2010 the Census Bureau). Crane, Fairview, Lambert, Savage and Sidney are the cities and towns located within Richland County. Cradled in the outstretched arms of the mighty Missouri to the north and the free flowing Yellowstone to the southeast, Richland County is the only county in Montana with two major rivers flowing through it. Richland County was established as a county seat in 1914. The County encompasses 2,103.1 square miles (of which 18.9 square miles is inland water and 2084.2 square miles of it is land) tucked neatly in the heart of the fertile Lower Yellowstone Valley. The County is also just a few miles from the Confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone rivers.

The county ranks at or near the top of all Montana counties in a number of agricultural and other production areas, including number one in the production of sugar beets, barley and oats. The county ranks second in oil production in the state, and its livestock center is sixth in number of animals handled in the course of a year. The barely industry continues to grow in Richland County and is currently ranked eighth in the state. Sidney, the county seat of Richland County, is the state’s 20^th largest city with a population of an estimated total 5,181. Sidney is the major shopping center in Eastern Montana and also attracts many of the western North Dakota shoppers. Sidney boasts its exceptional medical facilities, which adds to the Richland County’s status as the major retail center within the region. Sidney is home to the Mon Dak Heritage Center and Art Gallery known as one of the best small town museums west of the Mississippi.

Richland Economic Development was organized by visionary, dedicated businessmen and women in 1987 to work with various agricultural, service and commercial business entities throughout Richland County to foster economic growth.  Its ultimate goal is to spur long term expansion and to strengthen the economic base of Richland County.

Our mission statement guides the organization to take action or encourage action by others which will assist potential new or existing businesses to improve their chance of survival and contribution to economic growth, to generate jobs and to increase wealth in Richland County.  This is accomplished by providing technical assistance, financial resource assistance, education and   training opportunities, and by serving as a focal point and facilitator for short and long term county-wide economic development initiatives and partnerships.
