Like most great, long-running family owned companies, General Distributing's success can be traced back to its foundation. Glenn E. Bliss became president of General Distributing shortly after it opened in Great Falls back in 1948. He knew that by relying on core values like integrity and community involvement, his company would grow and become a Montana staple.
He passed these values on to his son, Glenn F. in the mid 1970s and General Distributing continued its path of growth and commitment to Montana and its communities. Today, a third generation of Bliss family members, Glenn W., Eric, Jason and Brian, along with their staff, carry on General Distributing's tradition of exceeding customers expectations by providing quality products, first class service and technical expertise.
Our passion for excellence is evident through our long-standing relationships with our clients throughout the Big Sky state. We're still headquartered in Great Falls with branches in Butte, Bozeman, Helena and Billings.
General Distributing has two primary business segments: industrial and medical. With the industrial business, we focus on industrial welding gases, specialty gases, welding and plasma equipment and accessories, and safety supplies. Our primary customer base is farm and agriculture, construction, mining, power plants, structural steel, and fabricators.
General Distributing’s medical division focuses on medical and specialty gases and medical equipment and supplies. Our primary customers are hospitals, home health care companies, surgery centers, physicians, dentists, veterinarian clinics, and research institutions.
General Distributing serves over 5,000 customers across the state of Montana. We supply bulk liquid nitrogen for industrial customers and bulk liquid medical oxygen for medical customers. Our corporate office is in Great Falls with branches in Butte, Bozeman, Helena, and Billings.

Cylinder Services
 General Distributing’s experts can maintain and service your gas cylinders. We employ a certified technician that can ensure quality service and maintenance that meets all D.O.T. specifications. We can re-qualify your gas cylinder with our computerized hydro-test station, replace cylinder valves, as well as strip and paint your cylinders for you
Repair
General Distributing has a dedicated service and repair department that can work on your gas, electric, and diesel equipment. We are an authorized warranty repair center for Miller, Hobart, Thermal Dynamics and Thermal Arc. We can also service and repair many other top name manufactures like ESAB and Panasonic. Our factory trained technician is committed to quality service with efficient turnarounds to help you maintain your production and product quality.
